Ghanaian, handwoven Kente has arrived!

We’re so excited to introduce a new line of straps here at DBMM made from handwoven Kente cloth!

Our Kente is handwoven on a horizontal treadle loom in Bonwire, Ghana; an Ashanti region near Kumasi.  Each piece is vibrantly colored, deliciously textured and, best of all – UNIQUE!

Kente in its present form has been woven by the Ashanti for centuries.  The story goes that two brothers watched a spider weaving its web and were inspired to recreate that beauty from raffia fibers.  Ashanti royalty then asked for brightly-colored woven cloth fit for a king and the dying of fibers in the West African Ashanti region began, as well as the evolution of modern Kente cloth.

We here at DBMM have painstakingly chosen complementary genuine Vlisco wax and java print fabrics for the back of each of our Kente straps to add strength, beauty and a one-of-a-kind aesthetic that you won’t find anywhere else!

Enjoy this limited edition introductory run and let us know what you think!
